I’ve recently posted here regarding how I don’t feel like my job is a good fit for me. A few months ago, I was promoted into a position that ended up being almost the complete opposite of what was pitched to me. I’ve since been miserable pretty consistently, five days a week… sometimes more.
I’m happy to report that this will be ending soon. I’ve been in the process of looking around, and have interviewed with one place in particular. This past Wednesday, I got the fateful call. I got the job!
To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the year. This new position is exactly along the lines of what I’ve been wanting to do for several years now. I will be a “Senior Linux System Engineer” for a prominent company in the financial industry. The pay is better, the perks are better, and the job is better. My future employer has been ranked pretty highly on the Fortune magazine’s list of “Top 100 Places to Work” for several years now.
I’ll be sad to leave behind some of the people with whom I’ve worked over the past five and a half years or so, but I’m sure I’ll keep in touch with a lot of them. The Internet and social media seem to make that a lot easier than it once was.
Anyway, not much to say. I just wanted to at least announce what was going on. I’ve been doing a happy dance on the inside all week.

Mike! I could not be more happy for you! Congratulations!!! I can’t wait to hear more about it! Woohoo!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know how excited you are and how long you have been waiting for this. You deserve to have a job you love and I hope it will be everything you wanted when you start. Congrats!
CONGRATULATIONS!!
I know how disappointed you have been with the promotion which ended up being the one task you hate the most. For that, I am sorry…but, Good things come to those who wait (Or to those who are persistent and willing to work hard and go out and get what they want:) )
You were mature and held on till something better came along, which just happened to be in the field of expertise you have been working toward the last few years.
I couldn’t be happier for you or more proud. Your future looks very bright indeed:)
Love YOU!!!
MOM
Well done. Especially for not just sitting there and being miserable but making something happen. Good luck.
Oh yay! Congrats! I am super happy for you!
Yay! Congratulations Mike! Good for you!
I’m all too familiar with what it’s like to not be happy where you work. It’s great that you were able to make a change!
I hope you’ll be very happy in your new position.
AWESOME! I felt so bad when your new job turned out to be something you hated. Congratulations on the new opportunity!
